How We Test and Review WordPress Survey Plugins
Surveys allow you to collect user feedback, which you can use to improve your business. You can use these plugins to add a user survey form in WordPress and share it with your users.
Picking the right survey plugin is about more than just features; it’s about finding a tool that you and your team will actually use.
Over the years, we’ve learned that a complicated tool with a thousand features is useless if no one can figure out how to launch a simple poll.
To help you avoid that problem, our team personally installed and tested each of these plugins on a real WordPress site. We went beyond the marketing copy and got hands-on with the software, building different types of surveys and analyzing the results.
Here’s what we focused on during our testing:
- Ease of Use: We looked at how long it took us to go from installation to a live survey. We prioritized plugins with a beginner-friendly interface, drag-and-drop builders, and pre-built templates that save you time.
- Survey Features: We looked for essential survey fields like NPS, Likert scales, star ratings, and multiple-choice questions. We also tested advanced features like conditional logic, which helps personalize the survey experience for users.
- Reporting & Analytics: Collecting data is only half the battle. We evaluated how each plugin presents the results. The best tools automatically generate beautiful charts and graphs that are easy to understand and share.
- Value for Money: We looked at the pricing of each plugin to see if the features justify the cost. We only recommend tools that provide excellent value for small businesses.
Why Trust WPBeginner?
Since 2009, our main goal at WPBeginner has been helping small businesses grow online. A key part of that growth is understanding your audience, and there’s no better way to do that than by asking them directly with surveys.
Our recommendations are based on real-world use and thorough testing. Plus, we use some of them every day across our portfolio of companies.
In fact, we built WPForms, one of the leading survey plugins, because we needed a tool that was both powerful and easy to use.
Our reputation is built on trust and transparency, so we always highlight both the strengths and weaknesses of every plugin. We hope this will allow you to choose the best fit for your budget and goals.
See our editorial process to learn more about it.
Now, let’s take a look at some of the best WordPress survey plugins in more detail.
1. WPForms

WPForms is our top recommendation and the best form builder plugin for WordPress. It comes with a powerful Survey and Polls addon, which allows you to quickly create highly engaging survey forms.
At WPBeginner, we use WPForms for all of our forms, including our annual reader survey. We’re big fans of the plugin, and you can learn more in our complete WPForms review.
Getting started is super easy. You can build your survey from scratch with a blank canvas, let the AI form builder create one for you instantly, or simply pick one of their many pre-made survey templates to save time.

With its intuitive drag-and-drop builder, you can add survey fields like Net Promoter Score (NPS), Likert scales, star ratings, and multiple-choice questions to your form in just a few clicks.
🧑💻 Pro Tip: When adding fields with options like multiple-choice, dropdowns, or checkboxes, you can use the AI Choices feature. It helps instantly generate the options for you, which can be a huge time-saver.
What we find most useful is the ability to combine these fields with other powerful features.
For example, you can combine it with conditional logic to create dynamic surveys that change based on user input.
However, the standout feature for us is the beautiful reporting dashboard.

WPForms automatically takes all the survey responses and creates professional-looking charts and graphs.
You can easily export these visuals for presentations or even display the results on a page for your users to see after they complete the survey.
WPForms also has a conversational forms mode, which helps boost form completion by making your form interaction feel more human.

WPForms gives you the enterprise-level features of Survey Monkey and Typeform at an affordable price for small businesses. This is why over 5 million website owners now use it.
For detailed instructions, you can see our article on how to create a survey in WordPress with beautiful reports.
Pros of WPForms
- All-in-one solution for forms, surveys, and polls.
- Extremely easy to use with a drag-and-drop builder and AI tools.
- Automatically generates beautiful reports with charts and graphs.
- Conversational forms mode boosts survey completion rates.
- You can enable survey reporting on any existing form.
Cons of WPForms
- The free version (WPForms Lite) does not include the survey features.
- You need the Pro plan to access the Surveys and Polls addon.
Pricing: There is a free version of WPForms that you can use to create simple forms. However, to create surveys, you need the Pro plan, which costs $199.50 per year.
Aside from the survey and poll features, the Pro plan comes with Stripe and PayPal integrations, form abandonment, user journey reports, and much more.
Why we recommend WPForms: We recommend WPForms because it gives you the power of enterprise-level tools like SurveyMonkey but at a fraction of the cost, making it perfect for small businesses.
2. UserFeedback

UserFeedback by MonsterInsights is one of the best user feedback plugins for WordPress.
Unlike traditional survey tools that require users to navigate to a separate page, UserFeedback allows you to ask targeted questions via small, discreet pop-up surveys.
We use UserFeedback on our own websites to run quick polls and gather instant feedback from our visitors about what content they’d like to see. We had a great experience with it, and you can see what it can do in our detailed UserFeedback review.
In our experience, this survey plugin is super easy to use. It comes with a large library of templates for common questions like “What stopped you from making a purchase?” or “How can we improve this page?”
It also has ready-made templates for eCommerce stores, Net Promoter Score (NPS), B2B satisfaction surveys, and more.
Plus, you can ask unlimited questions and receive unlimited responses. You can ask all types of questions, including multiple-choice and free-form questions, and even capture emails and collect star ratings.
You can then target questions to specific pages, devices, or even based on how a user behaves on your site.

In a matter of minutes, you can create a sleek popup feedback survey.
You can add the survey anywhere on your WordPress site and use the easy targeting rules to control exactly where and when your survey appears.

UserFeedback offers simple reporting features right from your WordPress dashboard so that you can analyze your responses. It also seamlessly integrates with Google Analytics and MonsterInsights.
In addition, you can customize how your popup surveys look so that they completely match your brand and site design.
Pros of UserFeedback
- Extremely easy to set up with pre-built templates.
- Potentially high response rates due to non-intrusive popups.
- Collects in-context feedback to improve user experience.
- Integrates with Google Analytics and MonsterInsights.
Cons of UserFeedback
- Not designed for long-form, multi-page surveys.
- Free version limits the number of responses you can collect.
Pricing: UserFeedback starts at $49.50 per year. There’s also a free version of the plugin that you can use to get started.
Why we recommend UserFeedback: We recommend UserFeedback for any website owner, marketer, or eCommerce store looking to quickly understand their users. It is the easiest way to find out what your visitors are thinking, why they are leaving, and what you can do to improve your website’s conversion rates.
3. Formidable Forms

Formidable Forms is the most advanced WordPress form builder on the market. While other plugins are great for standard surveys, Formidable Forms excels at creating complex, data-driven applications.
Our testing confirms that if your surveys need to include calculators, quizzes, or directory-style results, this is the plugin for the job. Plus, over 300,000 website owners use Formidable as their preferred form-building solution.
See our complete Formidable Forms review for details.
Formidable Forms comes with all the popular field types you would expect from the best survey plugins. These include Likert scales, NPS ratings, star ratings, multiple-choice questions, and more.
Its standout feature is ‘Views,’ which allows you to take the data submitted through your forms and display it on the front end of your website.

After collecting your customer data, you can then display the results in beautiful, customizable reports, graphs, and charts.
Plus, we found its feature set to be incredibly powerful. It includes advanced calculated fields, which are perfect for creating things like mortgage calculators or interactive product recommendation quizzes.
You could also use the View feature to create real estate listings, event calendars, or job boards, all populated by user submissions.
Pros of Formidable Forms
- The most advanced and feature-rich form builder available.
- Powerful ‘Views’ feature lets you display form data on your site.
- Excellent for building calculators, quizzes, and web applications.
- Good reporting features for survey results.
Cons of Formidable Forms
- Can be overly complicated for users who just need a simple survey.
- The interface is not as beginner-friendly as other options.
- Core survey features require the Business plan.
Pricing: Formidable Forms starts at $39.50 per year. But, you need the Business plan to access surveys, which costs $199.50 per year.
Why we recommend Formidable Forms: We recommend Formidable Forms for developers and users who need to build advanced, solution-focused forms. If your project requires more than just collecting information, like calculating, analyzing, and displaying data, then Formidable Forms is the best choice available.
4. Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms is one of the most trusted and reliable form builders in the WordPress ecosystem, known for its stability and developer-friendly code. Its unique selling proposition is its professional-grade reliability and vast library of third-party integrations.
This makes it a cornerstone for many agencies and business websites. For more insights into the plugin, see our full Gravity Forms review.
During our testing, we confirmed its reputation for being a solid platform for data collection. The Survey Add-On integrates well, allowing you to add survey-specific fields to the form builder.

The main drawback we found is in its reporting and accessibility.
The survey results are displayed as basic tables within the WordPress dashboard. There are no automatic charts or graphs, which means you must export your data as a CSV file and use WordPress tables plugin or a program like Excel or Google Sheets to visualize the results.
Pros of Gravity Forms
- A trusted and stable platform that developers rely on for critical data collection.
- Extensible with a large ecosystem of third-party add-ons.
- Excellent for securely capturing and managing a large volume of form entries.
Cons of Gravity Forms
- There is no free version available.
- The Survey Add-On is only available in the Elite license, which is their most expensive tier.
- It lacks built-in charts or graphs, so you must manually export data to visualize results.
Pricing: To get the survey addon, you must purchase the Elite license, which costs $259 per year. There is no free version.
Why we recommend Gravity Forms: We recommend Gravity Forms mainly for developers or businesses already using it as their primary form builder. If you are deeply invested in the Gravity Forms ecosystem, the Survey Add-On is a reliable way to add this feature, but be prepared for the high price tag.
5. Quiz and Survey Master

As the name suggests, Quiz and Survey Master is designed to help you add quizzes and surveys to your WordPress site. It’s one of the most popular free options in the WordPress repository for this purpose.
The first thing we noticed is that the user interface isn’t as polished or intuitive as other plugins on this list. However, the plugin is packed with a wide array of options.
The base free plugin allows you to design surveys with all common form fields and even create multi-page surveys, add timers, and use a variety of question types.
One of its more interesting features is the ability to create customized results pages based on the user’s score. In our opinion, this can be excellent for creating viral quizzes or personality tests that encourage social sharing.
The plugin can also send emails after completion of the survey to thank users or redirect them to any page on your WordPress website. For reporting and analysis, you will need to separately purchase a premium addon.
Pros of Quiz and Survey Master
- Powerful and flexible free version.
- Excellent for creating interactive quizzes and personality tests.
- Allows for customized results pages to boost engagement.
Cons of Quiz and Survey Master
- The user interface is not beginner-friendly and can be confusing.
- Key features like reporting dashboards and conditional logic require premium add-ons, and the costs can add up quickly.
- The default styling of the forms looks dated and often requires custom CSS.
Pricing: The plugin is free to use.
Why we recommend Quiz and Survey Master: This plugin is great for users who want to create highly interactive quizzes or surveys on a tight budget. If you are willing to navigate a steeper learning curve, Quiz and Survey Master offers a level of customization in its free version that is hard to find elsewhere.
6. WP-Polls

WP-Polls is a classic, straightforward polling plugin. It does one job: creating simple, single-question polls that you can easily add to your website’s sidebar or posts. It is completely free and has been around for a long time.
Unlike other plugins on this list, it doesn’t have a form builder. It is also quite limited, as you can only use radio buttons or checkboxes for answers.
What we like most about WP-Polls is that it uses AJAX. So when a user votes, the poll updates instantly without needing a page reload. It’s a very lightweight solution if all you need is a basic poll.
Users are automatically shown poll results after they cast their vote. It saves user responses in the logs, where you can see how registered users voted.
For non-registered users, you can see IP addresses to filter out duplicate votes.
That said, do note that this plugin is not a survey tool. It lacks all the features you’d expect from a survey builder, such as multiple question types or conditional logic. The design is also very basic and will likely need custom CSS styling to match a modern website theme.
Pros of WP-Polls
- Completely free to use.
- Easy to add polls to your site via a widget.
- Saves user responses in the logs.
- Uses AJAX to maintain site performance.
Cons of WP-Polls
- Extremely limited functionality (only single-question polls).
- No advanced features or reporting.
- The default design is outdated.
Pricing: Free.
Why we recommend WP-Polls: From testing, we recommend WP-Polls for bloggers or site owners who want a simple, no-frills way to add a traditional poll to their website.
Bonus: CrowdSignal (formerly Polldaddy)

CrowdSignal (formerly known as Polldaddy) is a WordPress poll and survey builder created by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and Jetpack. It offers a clean, modern interface for creating surveys, polls, and ratings that can be embedded in your WordPress site.
To use it, you must create a WordPress.com account to get an API key, even for the free version. The free version has limited features and will also add its branding logo to your survey form.
When testing, we liked the drag-and-drop editor and the polished look of the final surveys.
One of its standout features is the ability to collect responses across different channels, not just your website but also through email. The reporting dashboard is also well-designed, providing clear visual reports and data export options.
It also includes a captcha to block spam and some basic IP filtering to prevent multiple responses.
Pros of CrowdSignal
- Clean, modern, and easy-to-use interface.
- Created and maintained by a trusted name, Automattic.
- Good reporting and analytics dashboard.
- Basic security measures.
Cons of CrowdSignal
- The free plan is very limited and includes branding.
- It’s a subscription-based service, which can be more costly over time.
- Unlike other plugins, your survey data is stored on Automattic’s servers, not in your WordPress database. This is a critical factor if you have strict data privacy requirements.
Pricing: CrowdSignal starts at $15 per month for unlimited questions and surveys. There is also a free plan with a 2,500 signal limit.
Why we recommend CrowdSignal: We recommend CrowdSignal for users who prefer a hosted, hands-off solution and are already comfortable with the Automattic ecosystem. It’s a good choice for simple polls and surveys, especially if you plan to use it across multiple platforms and not just on WordPress.
What Is The Best WordPress Survey Plugin?
After our extensive testing and research, we believe that WPForms is the best WordPress survey plugin for most users.
It offers the perfect balance of powerful features and ease of use. You get an intuitive drag-and-drop builder, pre-made templates, and all the essential survey fields like NPS, Likert scales, and star ratings.
However, the best plugin always depends on your specific goals.
For gathering quick, contextual feedback with non-intrusive popups, UserFeedback is the easiest and fastest solution.
On the other hand, if you want to create complex, data-driven applications like calculators or directories, Formidable Forms is the most powerful choice.
If you’re on a tight budget and want to create viral-style quizzes, Quiz and Survey Master is a great free option, as long as you’re comfortable with a steeper learning curve.
We hope this guide helps you choose the perfect survey plugin for your needs! 🎉`
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Around WordPress Survey Plugins
Having helped thousands of users choose the right WordPress plugins, we’ve answered many questions about surveys. Here are the answers to some of the most common ones.
What is the best free survey plugin for WordPress?
For a completely free solution, Quiz and Survey Master is a great option. It offers a lot of functionality without a price tag, including multi-page surveys and different question types.
However, for a better user experience and more professional results, we recommend starting with the free version of UserFeedback or WPForms Lite. While their survey features are in the premium versions, they offer a much better foundation, and you can upgrade when you’re ready.
Can I create surveys like SurveyMonkey or Typeform in WordPress?
Yes, absolutely. Plugins like WPForms are designed to be direct alternatives to services like SurveyMonkey and Typeform. With the WPForms Pro plan, you get access to its Surveys and Polls addon, conditional logic, and beautiful reporting, which provides similar functionality.
Plus, the Conversational Forms addon in WPForms allows you to create interactive, one-question-at-a-time surveys, just like Typeform, which can significantly increase your completion rates.
We have a curated list of Typeform alternatives. Feel free to check it out!
How do I add a survey to my WordPress site?
Adding a survey is easy with the right plugin.
In general, you’ll first need to install and activate a survey plugin. Then, you’ll navigate to the form builder, choose a survey template or start from scratch, and use the drag-and-drop interface to add your questions.
Once your survey is built, you can easily embed it into your WordPress website, be it a page, post, or sidebar widget. Most survey builders let you do this using a dedicated block or shortcode.
Is a survey the same as a poll?
While they are similar, they serve different purposes.
A poll is typically a single multiple-choice question designed to get a quick opinion on one specific topic. For example, “What topic should we write about next?”
A survey is usually longer and more in-depth, containing multiple questions of different types (e.g., ratings, open-ended text, NPS) to gather detailed feedback or conduct research.

Hello and thank you for this comparison.
What is the best way to collect responses for input into a poll or survey?
So if you wanted to ask readers who their favorite chain restaurant is and then create a poll or survey for voting with their answers?
WPBeginner Support
The plugins in this article would allow you to collect those responses from you users. You could even have a text box for collecting the info from your users who take the survey.

Great list of best survey plugins.
While all the plugins are promising.
For me, I have to settle for formidable form because of its advanced features and functionalities including creating online Calculator and more.

Hi, thank you for the article.
Within the plugins that you mentioned, is there anyone that can
prevent users from filling a survey more than once?
Hans Aurik
Thanks for the comparison. Is there a survey plugin that integrates with woocommerce or digital download to provide a downloadable report based on answers given in the survey? So the visitor takes a survey and answers various questions. Based on their answer we want to sell them PDF A or PDF B. They go through the checkout process and then given a link to download the PDF.

Looking for a simple way to combine on one webpage a form that will allow the visitor to select one or more volunteer activities from a list of about 15 items, then provide the visitor’s contact information for staff follow-up and put both elements into a file I can review and send to the volunteer coordinator.
The plugins for questionnaires are overkill for what I need.
WPBeginner Support
Hi Omer,
You can create a custom form in WordPress using WPForms. Simply select a blank form and then start adding form fields you need.
